Home away from home.
The Skógar house has up until now been a home away from home, where the family spends summers, weekends and holidays together. After our children flew the coop we deicided that we wanted other people to experience the wonders Skógar and the surrounding areas have to offer. You have the magnificent Skógarfoss waterfall, the churning volcanism of the nearby glaciers and the unrelenting advances of the north atlantic sea on the vast black sand beaches.
We can offer horseback riding, snowmobile trips to the Mýrdalsjökull glacier and ATV(all terrain-vehicle) trips to the beaches.
Skógar Guesthouse is open all year-round. In the winter you have to book in advance. Every season has it's own charm and with the Gulfstream bringing warm seas from the gulf of Mexico, the winters are not particularly snow heavy. It's almost always possible to visit the nearby glaciers. As Skógar uses geothermal power, we have unlimited hot water on tap and there is just nothing that beats lying in the hot tub and watching the Aurora Borealis dance among the stars. The New York Times voted the Seljavallalaug swimming pool the best in the world. It can be found 5 km away in the nearby mountains.
Within 30 km of Skógar you can find, among other things, Reynisfjara where Paramount Pictures shot the movie Noah starring Russell Crowe. There is also Dyrhólaey where you can get up close and (almost) personal with the charming Puffins, Þakgil where the cliffs are made of soft, volcanic tuff that has been sculpted by mother nature using wind. Then there is the famous Fimmvörðuháls walk where you can see the remains of the 2010 volcanic eruption in smouldering rocks as well as having the most breathtaking views of Þórsmörk, a national treasure of beauty. The Skógar Museum is one of the best museums in the country and it's within 5 minute walking distance from the guesthouse.
We have 8 rooms, 4 two person ones for 17.000kr and 4 three person ones for 22.000kr.
Included in the price is: Breakfast, internet, hot tub(Jacuzzi), made up beds, all the towels you need, washing machine and dryer, lounge with TV and a respectable amount of DVD's and full use of the kitchen.
Availible upon request are trips up to Fimmvörðuháls and pickups from Þórsmörk.
